說明/ 普遍留鳥，全長約51 公分，非繁殖期全身為白色，眼先黃色。繁殖期約3 到7月，頭部、頸部、胸部與背部長出橘黃色漂亮飾羽。於乾燥農地活動，常尾隨耕耘機四周啄食驚起的昆蟲。主要獵物包含昆蟲、蛙、蜥蜴、蛇與小鼠等。早期農業社會，牠們喜歡跟在水牛身旁覓食，亦經常棲息於牛背上，因此黃頭鷺常被稱為牛背鷺，受驚嚇會發出粗啞之「呱– 呱–」聲。（彭楨儒攝）
A common resident bird, 51 cm in length, its lores are orange-yellow. It breeds from March to July, growing orange ornamental feathers on its head, neck, breast, and back. It roams dry farmlands, often following cultivators and feeding on startled insects. It primarily feeds on frogs, lizards, snakes and mice. In early agricultural society, it likes to feed next to water buffalos, and is often seen perching on the back of cattle, from which it gets its name.
