月桃

說明/ 多年生草本植物,全株高1–3 公尺,多生長於林蔭下。葉廣披針形,葉長60–70 公分,葉緣有細毛,葉鞘非常長且相互緊包成稈狀。屬薑科的月桃帶有淡淡的薑香,用月桃葉包出來的粽子經蒸煮後香氣誘人。此外,月桃的纖維強韌不易斷裂,早期也有人將其曬乾,利用葉鞘編製繩索或草蓆。月桃開花時,成串的白色花朵如小鈴鐺般於風中搖曳,相當賞心悅目。(陸維元攝)
A perennial herbaceous plant of ginger that can grow to 1-3 m tall, mostly seen growing in shade. The leaves are lanceolate, 60-70 cm long, with short hairs around the edge. The leaf sheaths are particularly long and often fold together into a stalk. The plant gives off a light ginger scent and the leaves can be used to wrap zongzi (rice dumpling), imparting a unique aroma to the rice. In addition, due to its resilient nature, the leaf sheaths are used as fiber for rope or matting after being dried.
