說明/ 雄蟾體長約5–6 公分，雌蟾體長則約5–8 公分，雌雄體型差異不大。吻端鈍圓，頭寬大於頭長，上下頷有黑色線。鼓膜大而顯著，耳後腺長橢圓形。特徵為自吻部開始有黑色骨質脊棱，一直沿眼鼻腺延伸至上眼瞼並直達鼓膜上方，形成一個黑色的眼眶。雄蟾有單咽下外鳴囊，咽喉鳴囊部分的皮膚顏色為橘紅色。由於較其他蟾蜍更接近人類居住地，而且為數眾多，因此俗話中的癩蛤蟆多指黑眶蟾蜍。鳴叫聲為連續「咯咯咯咯咯」聲。（彭楨儒攝）
Males about 5-6 cm in length; females 5-8 cm. The two sexes are similar in body size. The snout is short and blunt. The head width is longer than the head length. The upper and lower lips have black lines. The tympanum is very distinct; the parotid glands are oval-shaped. It has a distinguishing black ridge that runs from the snout, along the eye, nasal glands, and upper eyelids, all the way to the area above the tympanum, forming a distinct black orbit. Males have a single external singular vocal sac, parts of which are orange red in color. Living closer to human residence and with a population larger than other toads, the Spectacled Toad is usually the species people are talking about when referring to toads in general.
