說明/ 雄蟲體長含下顎約 2.7–7.2 公分，雌蟲體長大約 3–5 公分，臺灣特有亞種。體色黑褐色具光澤，體型稍扁。成熟雄蟲大顎發達，頭部及前胸背板兩側密生刻點，翅鞘上的刻點集中在兩側及翅後緣上，無縱向溝紋。本種又稱臺灣扁鍬，普遍分布於平地至低海拔山區。常見成蟲集體出現吸食樹液或熟透至腐敗的果實，如青剛櫟、臺灣欒樹、荒廢的柑橘園都容易找到牠們的蹤跡。夜晚具有趨光性，數量很多。（雄蟲與雌蟲．陸維元攝）

Males about 2.7-7.2 cm in length, including mandibles, females about 3-5 cm, it is an endemic subspecies of Taiwan. It is blackish-brown in color with a gloss and has a rather flat body. Adult males have well-developed mandibles. The head and the two sides of its pronotum are filled with pits. The elytra have pits concentrated at the two sides and the rear edge, without longitudinal grooves. It is also known as “Taiwan Flat Beetle” , commonly distributed across plains and low altitude mountains. The adults often appear in groups feeding on saps or decaying fruits. They can be easily found in Japanese Blue Oaks, Taiwan Rain Trees, or deserted citrus groves. At night, it shows phototaxis, appearing in large numbers.
