說明/ 普遍留鳥，臺灣特有亞種，全長約20–26 公分，翼展可達60 公分以上，羽色似枯草不易發現，雌雄鳥相似。原本數量稀少，但近年來在全國各地都有逐漸都市化與普遍化的現象。牠們不築巢，郊區的夜鷹是直接生蛋在沙礫地上，而城鎮中夜鷹則選擇校舍或樓房樓頂地面下蛋。繁殖期約1 到8 月，夜間至凌晨鳴叫求偶，常不斷發出音似「追伊– 追伊–」的宏亮叫聲，長達4 到5 小時。（宋宇濬攝）

A common resident bird, endemic subspecies of Taiwan, 20-26 cm in length, with a wingspan over 60 cm. Due to its camouflaged plumage that resembles dry grass, it is not easily discoverable. Both sexes are similar in appearance. Originally, its population was small. However, in recent years it has begun to appear in urban areas and across the country in numbers. It does not build nests, but lays its eggs on bare, sandy ground in suburban areas, or on the rooftop of city buildings. It breeds from January to August, making loud “chweep-chweep” mating calls throughout the night and well into early morning that may last four to five hours. (Photo courtesy of Song Yu-jun)
