Golden Trumpet Tree (Tabebuia chrysantha)
A deciduous tree that can grow to about 7-8 m tall, 15 m at most, it has an upright trunk and many branches, and a bark with deep cracks. It is the national flower of Brazil and its appearance changes according to the seasons. The flowers are golden yellow and scentless, occurring in March. When in bloom, the trees are covered in golden flowers. In summer, the plant produces much foliage, pods, and samaras which fly though the air. In autumn, the plant is adorned with lush foliage, which transforms into a withered beauty in winter. Golden trumpet trees are grown in large numbers along the trail near the library on campus, producing a spectacular view during the flowering season every year, attracting visitors. The flowers bloom within a two-week period, attracting bees or insects with their nectar. (Photo courtesy of Huang Yi-jun)
