說明/ 普遍留鳥，體型圓胖，全長約14 公分，麻雀雄雌同形同色，頭頂和後頸為栗色，面部白色，雙頰中央兩側各有一塊黑色色塊，喉部黑色。雜食性，以昆蟲或草籽為主食。經常被誤認為害鳥，然而在都會區因為其他鳥類較少，麻雀在消滅活動於路樹、校園或公園中的害蟲，保護城市綠化中有正面的作用。繁殖期約3 到11 月間，牠們的巢多用草莖、枯枝甚至塑膠繩築成。常在人工的環境築巢，如冷氣機下緣或熱水器排氣管等。（陸維元攝）
A common resident bird, with a round, plump profile, 14 cm in length. The sexes are similar in size and plumage, with a chestnut crown and nape, white face, and a black patch on each white cheek, and a black throat. Omnivorous, it feeds mainly on insects and grass seeds. Often mistaken for pests, in the absence of large populations of other bird species, urban Eurasian Tree Sparrows actually help eliminate vermin roaming around street trees, campuses or parks and are conducive to urban greening. It breeds between March and November, building nests made with stalks, twigs or even plastic ropes. Its nest is often found in artificial environments, such as under air conditioners or heat pipes.
