說明 / 常綠喬木，樹高可達 10 公尺以上，是羊蹄甲與洋紫荊之雜交育成品種，花葉比羊蹄甲及洋紫荊大。花大而豔麗，直徑約 8–12 公分，具有香味，花瓣倒卵形或橢圓形，共有 5 片，鮮紅色或紫紅色。花形似洋蘭般雍容瑰麗，花期春秋兩季，盛開時艷紫花 朵佈滿樹冠。開花後通常不結子，繁殖主要以嫁接法進行。艷紫荊為本校校花，主要分布於寧靜湖南側步道兩旁。每年一月寒流來襲時，豔紫荊在細雨中沿著步道綻放， 為沿岸的綠籬換上了一層迷濛又華麗的紫衣。（陸維元攝）

An evergreen tree that can grow to more than 10 m tall. It is a hybrid between the Orchid Tree and the Purple Bauhinia, with flowers and leaves larger than both. The flowers are about 8-12 cm in diameter, fragrant, made up of five obovate or oblong petals that are bright red or purplish-red in color. The flowers are orchid-like, appearing during spring and fall. When in bloom, the trees are covered in flamboyant purple flowers. It usually does not produce seeds after flowering. Instead, it is propagated mainly by grafting. Its flower is the floral emblem of CCU, mostly seen along the south side trail of Tranquility Lake.
