說明/ 常綠喬木，樹高可達10公尺以上，樹幹直徑約20–40公分，樹皮有灰白色斑。樹枝多數，直立或斜上昇，小枝條瘦長，圓柱形。葉為單葉對生，奇數羽狀複葉，長15–30公分，葉片無柄，橢圓形。夏秋之季開花，花多數，深紅色，展開時直徑7–9公分，具有長柄，呈下垂狀。果實似細長圓柱如臘腸狀，長20–50公分，直徑3–8公分，成熟時茶褐色。因果實碩大且頗具重量，本校總務處於每年3月前後，皆會派員摘除有傷人之虞的成熟果實，師生員工與外來遊客享受森林浴之餘亦需注意頂上果實。（陸維元攝）
An evergreen tree that can grow to more than 10 m tall, with a trunk of about 20-40 cm in diameter and a bark with greyish-white spots. It has many branches that grow upwards or vertically with thin, long branchlets. The leaves are simple, opposite, and odd-pinnately compound, 15-30 cm long, sessile, and oblong in shape. It flowers during summer and autumn, producing many dark red, drooping blossoms that are 7-9 cm in diameter on long stalks. The fruits are sausage-like in shape, 20-50 cm long, 3-8 cm wide, which turn brown when ripe. As the pendulous fruits can be quite heavy, the Office of General Affairs sends people to remove them around March every year to prevent people from getting hit by falling fruit torpedoes.
