說明/台灣原生樹種，落葉性大喬木，可高達20公尺以上，性喜陽光。樹皮幼時平滑，灰褐色，老樹表面粗糙有深刻的裂褶，暗褐色，樹脂具特殊芳香，為其命名由來。葉翠綠色，入冬後先轉成黃色，落葉前再轉為紅色，色彩多變。楓香用途非常廣泛，枝幹可採樹脂製作線香及藥用，亦可供培植香菇。木材堅硬兼能抗白蟻，是良好的建築及傢俱材料。春夏季時綠蔭遮天，可作為行道樹、庭園樹或盆景樹種等。(陸維元/宋宇濬攝）

A deciduous tree that can grow to over 20 m tall. Native to Taiwan, it likes sunlight. Less mature trunks have smoother, greyish-brown bark, whereas mature ones have rough, dark-brown bark with deep cracks. The resin is aromatic, giving the plant its common name. The green leaves turn yellow in autumn and red in the spring next year. The plant has a variety of uses. Its branches and stems can be used to grow mushrooms and extract resin, which is used for incense or medical purposes. The wood is hardy and resistant to termites, making it a good material for construction and furniture.
